9th EMHC – POSTPONED!
It is with great sadness and regret that Marco and I have to announce that the 9th EMHC scheduled for London this September has been postponed to Thursday 8 – Saturday 10 September 2022. Although the Covid situation in England appears to be well under control, it is by no means certain that the current restrictions will not remain in place for some time due to the regular outbreaks of the virus and its lethal variants in various parts of the world.
We want to make sure our international guests can travel to London safely, free of quarantine (on arrival/return) and possibly free of expensive Covid tests. Safety and peace of mind of all those who attend the EMHC is paramount.
Our EMHC is a special event and in many respects is like a family gathering, which relies on the interaction of its members from Europe and the Americas to mix freely, both during the lecture programmes and the special events and performances. Both Marco and I have put a great deal of work and thought into ensuring that this particular meeting, which will be the last I will organise, will offer a programme of considerable interest to magical historians and collectors. It will set out to offer as much of the very best of our country’s unique history in magic as is possible in the time available. The postponement and consequences of Covid may mean that some visits or programme parts may have to be altered. If that is going to be the case, substitute events that will be equally attractive to magical enthusiasts will be put in place. We are working on that, so that the postponement may give us an enhanced programme.
There is no doubt that one of the effects of Covid, regardless of any delay it has caused, is that the cost of the meeting will have to slightly increase. We are re-negotiating with our partners costs to hold EMHC safely, following any Covid rule the British government may impose, and in these uncertain times we do not yet have definitive prices. If our costs will increase, rest assured that value for money will be to the forefront of our thinking and we will still aim to include events within the registration fee that are normally outside. For the many who have already registered there will be no increase applied. The revised registration fee will be published as soon as possible, and we have now temporarily suspended the registrations. Please remember that by the rules of EMHC we have a limited number of attendees so early registration after the announcement of the new fee is advised to avoid disappointment. At the moment, more than a quarter of available places are spoken for.
As soon as we have confirmed the main events of our programme for 2022, plus any new events, we will include these on our web site and re-open the registrations (of course, an email will be sent out). Please note that we will still offer the traditional Sunday Lunch with an event (11 September) and a super-extra special visit on Monday (12 September), always payable separately.
Marco and I look forward to welcoming you all to London next year to what we are determined will be an EMHC to remember after the trials we have all had to endure during this pandemic.
